This past weekend we were happy to help our guests with an anniversary celebration! For the room we included a bouquet of flowers and some sweets. I added one new breakfast items, plus a variation on a second.

Preparations began with baking of sourdough boules, two loaves of Japanese milk bread, and a batch of sourdough English muffins.

We provided recommendations for a nice restaurant, and they were very pleased with dinner at The Appalachian in downtown Sevierville.

Japanese milk bread is excellent for French toast and it is even richer than brioche. Recently I saw a recipe for Bacon-Apple-Pecan stuffed French Toast from Maplewood Road that looked amazing. After Deb and I gave it two thumbs up in a test run, I added it to the menu for our anniversary couple. With the bacon, apple slices, and pecans roasted together in the oven, and slathered with mascarpone, it did not disappoint!

Yogurt served with grapes and a simple home made granola was the first course. The granola consists mainly of old-fashioned oats, flax meal, brown sugar, and honey. No dried fruits or coconut were used. The recipe is from “The Seasoned Mom“. I packed some to go with our guests to tide them over for their visit to The Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Breakfast on day two was more on the savory side with Vermont cheddar and herb scrambled eggs, homemade hash browns, and maple-mustard glazed Canadian bacon.
