A Nespresso coffee machine is now available on the coffee bar in the dining room. This is in addition to drip brewed coffee from the Little River Coffee Company. We are stocking the Tayst line of capsules that are compostable, unlike the original aluminum capsules. I had bought the Nespresso Citiz machine a while back to try out but was looking for other options for the capsules. Recently I saw an article online that the original Nespresso patent had expired, and now there was a wider variety of manufacturers of the capsules. One day I had an email from Tayst on their line of Nespresso compatible capsules and ordered their sampler set. It arrived shortly before I returned from a 3-week business trip.

I also tried making an “unboxing” video however I often suffer from operator error when taking videos with my iPhone! The actual unboxing wasn’t recorded but I did two more to make up for it.

Nespresso and Me

I first encountered the Nespresso coffee machines when I was making business trips to the PETNET site just outside of Madrid, in Arganda del Rey. Drinking coffee was a recent thing for me as I was looking to replace the caffeine to counter jet lag that I used to get from soda. One of my first stops was at the Nespresso shop in Madrid to buy capsules for the site. And for me of course!

Reactions to the Tayst Capsules and other hot beverage options

Recently I had my first guests of 2025, and one of them tried the Expresso Pavoni capsules during his stay. He has a semi-automated expresso machine at home, and thought this coffee compared very well to it. We are stocking the Expresso Pavoni, Expresso Moriondo, and the Achille decaff capsules. I should note that I realize the Nespresso method is not considered a “true” expresso, however I think it makes an excellent coffee. It is also without some of the bitterness that can be present when I use my Bialetti Moka Express. I have it as a 3-cup and the 6-cup sizes. The 3-cup Bialetti has been in near daily use for a decade or more, and I often take it with me when I travel. The 6-cup Bialetti is on the coffee bar. I would be happy to make coffee with it, using Little River Coffee Company’s Expresso blend, on request. We also have a selection of teas along with an electric kettle. Come book a stay with us to try out our Nespresso coffee machine, or any of the other options for hot beverages!
