Don’t forget to ask us about our to-go breakfast and coffee option to fuel your early morning exploring! If you do not have to depart early, then you’ll surely enjoy the made from scratch breakfast!

Seven Islands State Birding Park

A 25-minute drive from the Inn, Seven Islands is Tennessee’s first birdwatching park. About 200 species have been seen here thanks to migrating birds and the park’s diverse habitats, including grassland, woods, and the French Broad River. Keep an eye out for barn owls in the park’s barns and warblers, northern bobwhites, sparrows, and waterfowl. Before your visit, see this list of species found at the park, and check the park’s calendar for bird banding and birds of prey programs.

Ijams Nature Center

Ijams is a nonprofit nature preserve about 30 minutes from The Sidecar Inn. You can hike more than 14 miles of trails to look for birds. From the boardwalk on the Tennessee River, you might see eagles and herons. You’re guaranteed to see a turkey vulture and a red-tailed hawk up close; just visit the center’s raptor enclosure anytime during its business hours. Staff lead birding excursions around the property, and the Center hosts a late summer Hummingbird Festival every year.

Norris Dam State Park

Those willing to venture a bit farther out can drive about an hour from the Inn to Norris Dam State Park. More than 105 bird species have been seen here. This park boasts more than 20 miles of hiking trails and borders the huge Norris Lake. Park staff host boat tours of the lake allowing you to rest your legs while you look for waterfowl, osprey, and gulls.
